U-Y

Au-Y (Gold-Yttrium) K.A. Gschneidner, Jr. and F.W. Calderwood No phase diagram is available for the Y-Au system, but several intermetallic compounds have been reported. YAu crystallizes in the cubic CsCl-type structure [65Kir]; YAu2 crystallizes in the tetragonal MoSi2-type structure [ 65Kus]; and YAu2 crystallizes in the orthorhombic Cu3Ti-type structure [68Sad]. [68Sad] also reported the existence of Y2Au7 and YAu6 phases with complex structures in as-cast and annealed samples with 77.5 and 85 at.% Au, respectively. These stoichiometries were not verified. However, considering the similar alloying and crystal chemical behavior of Y and Dy, the Y2Au7 phase (77.8 at.% Au) is likely to have the Gd14Ag51-type structure (78.5 at.% Au), and the YAu6 phase is likely to have the HoAu6-type structure. [65Rid] found evidence for significant solid solubility of Y in (Au), and quantitatively estimated the solid solubility of Y in (Au) as 2 at.% Y. 65Kir: H.R. Kirchmayr, Z.
