Tl-V

Tl-V (Thallium-Vanadium) J.F. Smith and K.J. Lee Because of the lack of experimental information concerning the Tl-V system, the assessed phase diagram is calculated. [66Sav] reported a phase in the Tl-V system with a stoichiometry of TlV3 and the Cr3Si structure. However, the reported existence of TlV3 has not been accepted in the present diagram. The lack of acceptance is supported by noting that trends occur systematically through the periodic chart, but no intermediate phases are formed between V and the elements surrounding Tl (i.e., Hg, In, Pb, or Bi). In view of this behavior, compound formation between Tl and V would be anomalous. Finally, the Miedema model [83Mie] gives theoretical indication that the interaction between V and Tl is strongly positive, tending to induce segregation and immiscibility rather than compound formation. 66Sav: E.M.
