Th-V (Thorium-Vanadium) J.F. Smith, K.J. Lee, and D.E. Peterson The assessed phase diagram for the Th-V system was obtained by thermodynamic modeling and is based primarily on the work of [53Lev] and [62Pal]. [53Lev] reported a simple eutectic system with eutectic solidification occurring at 19. 3 at.% V (5 wt.% V) and 1400 с 5 C, with limited to negligible terminal solid solubilities. The terminal solubility of V in bcc (Th) increases from ~0.6 at.% V at the eutectoid temperature to ~0.8 at.% V at the eutectic temperature. [62Pal] reported eutectic solidification of the liquid at 1435 с 10 C and 19. 3 с 1.7 at.% V, with terminal solubilities near this temperature being <0.1 at. % Th in (V) and <1.8 at.% V in (Th). The fcc = bcc transformation in Th is depressed by V additions to result in a eutectoid reaction at 1345 с 10 C, with a composition of <0.5 at.% V for the bcc phase. The calculated diagram raises the melting points of the components to currently accepted values, yet retains the eutectoid temperature, the eutectic temperature, and the eutectic omposition within the uncertainties of [ 62Pal]. 53Lev: H.I.
