Th-Ti

Th-Ti (Thorium-Titanium) J.L. Murray The assessed Ti-Th phase diagram was drawn from a thermodynamic calculation, using Gibbs energies optimized with respect to select phase diagram data. By X-ray and metallographic examination, [56Car] showed that there are no intermetallic compounds and no detectable mutual solubilities in the solid state. The eutectic temperature was measured by optical observation of incipient melting. [56Car] metallographically determined the eutectic composition as 59.9 с 1.2 at.% Th. By chemical analysis of a eutectic alloy produced by directional solidification, [80Ped] found 57.5 с 0.8 at.% Th. The assessed value is 57.5 at.% Th. [56Car] determined liquidus points by holding eutectic alloys in Ti crucibles at temperatures in the (liquid + solid) phase field and chemically analyzing the composition of the portion of the alloy that had been molten. This technique avoids contamination of alloys due to interaction with a crucible. 56Car: O.N. Carlson, J.M. Dickinson, H.E. Lunt, and H.A. Wilhelm, Trans. AIME, 206, 132-136 (1956). 80Ped: T.E.
