Rb-Te

Rb-Te (Rubidium-Tellurium) J. Sangster and A.D. Pelton The assessed Rb-Te phase diagram is based on the limited data of [78Chu] and on an assumed similarity to the K-Te and Cs-Te systems, along with available crystallographic data on some of the compounds. The Rb-Te system reportedly [78Chu] has three eutectics, at 39, 365, and 241 C, and two congruently melting compounds-Rb2Te, which melts at 775 C, and Rb2Te3, which melts at 400 C. Several additional compounds have been proposed. Error estimates of с50 C apply to most of the liquidus. Under the assumption of negligible solid solubility of Te in (Rb), the Rb-rich eutectic liquid composition may be calculated thermodynamically as ranging from 0.05 to 0.3 at.% Te. Rb2Te melts congruently at ~775 C [78Chu]. The S-shaped liquidus in the assessed diagram between 0 and 33.3% Te has been drawn tentatively by analogy with the Na-Te system to indicate a tendency to immiscibility between metallic liquid Rb and partially ionic liquid Rb2Te. Lattice parameters have been obtained from single crystals of Rb2Te3 [80Bot, 82Chu]; it melts congruently at ~400 C [78Chu]. Lattice parameters have been obtained on single crystals of Rb2Te5 [83Bot]. An invariant temperature of 270 C observed for "RbTe2" [ 78Chu] may be assigned tentatively as the peritectic associated with Rb2Te5. The compounds Rb3Te2, Rb5Te4, and RbTe have also been suggested and are shown tentatively in the assessed diagram. "Rb7Te4" and "RbTe2" probably do not exist and are not shown. 78Chu: K.A.
