Pt-U (Platinum-Uranium) B.A.S. Ross and D.E. Peterson The assessed Pt-U phase diagram is based on the work of [60Par]. Analyses by [60Par] revealed maximum solubilities of 5 at.% Pt in (gU) at the eutectic temperature, 2.35 at.% Pt in (bU) at 705 C, and 0.9 to 1.2 at.% Pt in (aU) between room temperature and 589 C, respectively. [60Par] found a maximum solubility of about 4 at.% U in (Pt) at room temperature with an increase to 4.5 at.% U at the eutectic temperature of 1345 C. [81Sch] reviewed the magnetic properties of the Pt-U intermetallics. PtU is a weak ferromagnet, whereas Pt3U shows an antiferromagnetic transition. Pt2U and Pt5U exhibit no magnetic ordering down to 2.5 K. [83Fri] reported finding no magnetic ordering in either Pt2U or Pt5U. [69Mat], [70Law], and [71Hil] found evidence of a ferromagnetic transition at 27 K in PtU with an additional transition [83Kam] at 19 K, indicating a change in the magnetic spin structure. 55Hea: T.J.
