Pb-Sb

Pb-Sb (Lead-Antimony) S. Ashtakala, A.D. Pelton, and C.W. Bale Pb-Sb is a simple eutectic system. Along the Pb liquidus, the assessed phase diagram is based on the work of [23Dea], [44Blu], and [76Mos]. The data of [ 44Blu] and [76Mos] were used to draw the Sb liquidus. A critical coupled analysis of phase diagram/thermodynamic data was carried out for the Pb-Sb system in order to obtain a set of optimized thermodynamic equations that would reproduce the measured thermodynamic properties and the experimental phase diagram. The solid solubility of Sb in (Pb) is calculated to be 0.6 at.% Sb at 322 C, reaching a maximum of 5.8 at.% at 251.7 C, then decreasing to 0.3 at.% at 100 C, which is in good agreement with the experimental data of [33Obi] and [ 43Pel]. The solubility of Pb in (Sb) has been measured several times, with poor agreement among the various studies. These measurements were reviewed by [ Hansen], who concluded that the maximum solubility lies between 1.5 and 2.7 at. % Pb. A study by [76Mos] placed the solubility at the eutectic temperature at 2.0 at.% Pb. Indications of a slight retrograde solubility with a maximum solubility of 1.8 at.% Pb at 420 C were reported by [56Oel]. 23Dea: R.S. Dean, J. Am. Chem. Soc., 45, 1683-1688 (1923). 33Obi: I.
