O-Sb

Co-Sb (Cobalt-Antimony) K. Ishida and T. Nishizawa The assessed phase diagram for the Co-Sb system is based primarily on the data of [69Kje], [77Kje], and [85Ish], with review of the experimental data of [ 08Lew], [37Has], and [39Gel], as well as the previous diagrams of [Hansen] and [Elliott]. The equilibrium phases in the Co-Sb system are (1) the liquid, L; ( 2) the fcc terminal solid solution, (aCo); (3) the cph phase, (eCo); (4) the rhombohedral solid solution (Sb); (5) the NiAs-type intermediate compound CoSb with some homogeneity composition range, b; (6) the intermediate compound CoSb2, which transforms from the FeS2-marcasite orthorhombic structure g at high temperature to the arsenopyrite-type monoclinic structure g› at low temperature; and (7) the intermetallic compound CoSb3 with a bcc CoAs3-type structure, d. [85Ish] also showed that the solubility of Sb decreased abnormally below the Curie temperature, due to the effect of the magnetic contribution. No data are available on the solubility of Co in (Sb). The b/b + (aCo) phase boundary depends on the Sb content above 600 C, whereas the b/b + g boundary is less dependent on temperature. The b/b + (aCo) boundary does not depend on temperature [85Ish]. The thermal stability of CoSb2 phase was investigated by [77Kje]. The high-temperature X-ray data exhibited the transformation from monoclinic g› to orthorhombic symmetry g at 377 C. [77Kje] concluded that this transformation is of the second or higher order. The martensitic transformation temperatures for (aCo) = (eCo) were determined by [37Has] and [37Kos]. The tendency of raising As temperature with increasing Sb content was confirmed, whereas the results by [37Has] and [37Kos] on the Ms temperature were considerably different. 08Lew: K. Lewkonja, Z.
