Na-Zr

Na-Zr (Sodium-Zirconium) C.W. Bale There are no published data concerning the phase diagram for the Na-Zr system. By analogy with other alkali metal-group IVa systems, it is anticipated that the system is almost completely immiscible in both the liquid and solid states. If the solubilities are very limited, it follows from thermodynamic calculations that the univariant temperatures in the phase diagram are virtually coincidental with the transformation temperatures of the pure components. [55Sie] reported no appreciable dissolution of Zr in Na (or the converse) even at temperatures much higher than that of the sodium graphite reactor (~540 C). However, they noted that corrosion was enhanced by impurities such as oxygen. 55Sie: S. Siegel, R.L. Carter, F.E. Bowman, and B.R. Haywook, Proc. UN Int.
