Na-V

Na-V (Sodium-Vanadium) J.F. Smith and K.J. Lee Liquid Na has been considered for use as the heat exchange medium in fast breeder reactor technology. Because V has been considered as a fuel cladding in such reactors, the interaction of liquid Na and V is of particular interest. It is well known, however, that nonmetallic impurities (e.g., oxygen, nitrogen, carbon) significantly affect the interaction and apparent solubility of transition metals in liquid alkali metals [79Bar]. Due to the high purity of the materials used, the study of [70Eic] is the only true approximation of binary phase behavior in the Na-V system. The assessed phase diagram was based primarily on the data of [Hultgren,E] and [70Eic] and represents the system at a constant pressure of 1 atm. 70Eic: R.L. Eichelberger and R.L.
