Mo-Si (Molybdenum-Silicon) A.B. Gokhale and G.J. Abbaschian The assessed Mo-Si phase diagram is based primarily on the data of [71Sve] and [74Cha]. The present diagram has been modeled using select thermodynamic data from [ 74Cha]. The (Mo) phase was assumed to obey Henry's law, and the solid solubility of Mo in (Si) was assumed to be nil. The liquidus is partially speculative due to the lack of experimental data. However, the present thermodynamic calculations indicate the enthalpy of mixing in the liquid to be strongly negative. [71Sve] determined that the eutectic between Mo3Si and Mo5Si3 occurs at 2020 C and 26.4 at.% Si and also determined that the intermediate MoSi2 phase undergoes a polymorphic transformation at 1900 C. [71Sve] further indicated the presence of a reaction involving bMoSi2, Mo5Si3, and aMoSi2 at 1850 C, which the present evaluators view as speculative, requiring further investigation. 71Sve: V.N.
