Lu-Mg (Lutetium-Magnesium) A.A. Nayeb-Hashemi and J.B. Clark The assessed phase diagram for the Mg-Lu system is based on the work of [77Rok] for the Mg-rich region (0 to 12.2 at.% Lu) and on the data of [64Kri], [64Mil] , [65Jos], and [67Kri] and on extrapolation from the Mg-Gd system for the remainder of the diagram. The presence of intermetallic compounds Mg24Lu5, Mg2Lu, and MgLu (and their formation by a peritectic reaction), the Mg-rich eutectic, and the limited mutual solid solubilities have been well established and are consistent with other binary systems of Mg with heavy rare earth elements. The possible presence of a MgyLux compound with y/x >> 24/5 stoichiometry (~17 at.% Lu) and its stability range remain to be established. 64Kri: P.I. Kripyakevich, V.I. Evdokimenko, and E.I.
