Li-Zr

Li-Zr (Lithium-Zirconium) C.W. Bale The Li-Zr system is virtually completely immiscible in both the solid and liquid states. There is no evidence of intermetallic compound formation in this system, nor in any of the other alkali metal-group IVa systems. The solubility of Zr in liquid Li varies from approximately 0.0001 at.% at 700 C to 0.014 to 0.033 at.% Zr at 1200 C [61Byc]. The solubility of Zr is so small that it does not appear in the assessed phase diagram. There are no reported data for the solubility of Li in solid Zr. By analogy with the other alkali metal-group IVa systems, the solubility is estimated to be negligible. At 1 atm pressure and above the temperature of fusion of Zr (1855 C), the vapor phase, which is almost pure Li, is in equilibrium with virtually pure liquid Zr. From vapor pressure calculations, at 2000 C, the composition of the gas phase (Li(g) + Li2(g) + Zr(g)) is estimated to be approximately 0. 00002 at.% Zr in equilibrium with almost pure liquid Zr. 61Byc: Yu.F.
