Li-Zn

Li-Zn (Lithium-Zinc) A.D. Pelton The assessed Li-Zn phase diagram is from [Hansen], with a few minor changes and a different nomenclature for the phases. The assessed diagram is based on [ 33Gru], with review of the data of [68Far]. The boundaries of the LiZn and aLi2Zn3 phases were not extended down to room temperature by [33Gru]. However, [35Zin] observed that samples with 51, 54, and 58 at.% Zn were two phase, so the extension has been made in the assessed diagram. In the assessed diagram, the Zn-rich limit of the aLiZn4 phase has been set at 84 at.% Zn as indicated by [33Gru]. The stoichiometry LiZn4 has been assigned arbitrarily to this phase, the unit cell being unknown. At the eutectic temperature of 161 с 3 C, the liquid composition is 4.5 at.% Zn. From the limiting slope equation, the solid composition at the eutectic temperature can be calculated thermodynamically from the enthalpy of fusion of Li. The calculated solubility of 1.5 с 0.5 at.% Zn is shown in the assessed diagram. Following [Hansen], values of 96 at.% Zn and 403 C were chosen for the Zn- rich eutectic reaction in the assessed diagram. The solid composition at the eutectic temperature is calculated thermodynamically from the limiting slope equation to be 99 с 0.5 at.% Zn. [68Far] determined a solubility of Li in (Zn) of 1 at.% at 150 C. 33Gru: G. Grube and H. VosskЃhler, Z. Anorg. Chem., 215, 211-224 (1933). 33Zin: E. Zintl and G. Brauer, Z. Phys.
