Ir-Ni

Ir-Ni (Iridium-Nickel) S.C. Yang, N. Chen, and P. Nash The assessed Ir-Ni equilibrium phase diagram is based mainly on a thermodynamic model. The Ir-Ni system was determined by [70Rau] using X-ray diffraction (XRD) and optical microscopy on five alloy compositions produced by argon arc melting; the purity of the starting materials was not stated. A continuous series of (Ir,Ni) solid solutions was found, and no decomposition reaction or formation of superlattice phase was detected. The same conclusion was reached by [70Buc] on the basis of XRD, specific heat, magnetic susceptibility, and Debye temperature measurements. The alloy preparation and material purities were not reported. No changes in structure occurred after annealing alloys for several days in the temperature range 500 to 1100 C [70Buc]. The Curie temperatures of (Ir,Ni) alloys were determined by [60Cra]. The data show a linear dependence of Curie temperature on composition. Extrapolation of the data of [60Cra] to 1.4 K shows good agreement with the occurrence of spontaneous magnetization found by [70Buc] at 1.4 K at Ni content greater than 78 at.%. 60Cra: J.
