Ge-Pb

Ge-Pb (Germanium-Lead) R.W. Olesinski and G.J. Abbaschian The Ge-Pb system is characterized by a eutectic reaction at 327.1 C and 0.07 at.% Ge. The pure elements have negligible mutual solubility in the solid state. The assessed phase diagram is based primarily on evaluation of the data of [30Bri] and [60Thu]. The formation and decompostion of metastable crystalline solid solutions and amorphous films in the Ge-Pb system have been studied by [80Akh] using X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy, differential thermal analysis, and resistance measurement techniques. They reported that the solid solubility of Ge in (Pb) can be extended up to 5 at.% Ge in vapor-quenched crystalline films and up to 13 at.% Ge in splat-cooled crystalline phases. The solubilities of Pb in Ge-rich vapor quenched amorphous films and splat-cooled crystalline phases are 7.5 at.% Pb and nil, respectively. The Pb-rich metastable crystalline phases were reported to decompose in the temperature range 220 to 300 C. 30Bri: T.R. Briggs and W.S. Benedict, J. Phys. Chem., 34, 173-177 (1930). 60Thu: C.D.
