Ge-Nd

Ge-Nd (Germanium-Neodymium) A.B. Gokhale and G.J. Abbaschian The assessed phase diagram for the Nd-Ge system is based entirely on the work of [74Ere]. On heating, NdGe2-x undergoes a polymorphic transformation from orthorhombic to tetragonal at 615 C on the Ge-deficient side and at 680 C on the Ge-rich side. The intermediate phase Nd5Ge4 is slightly more deficient in Ge than the stoichiometric composition, being closer in composition to Nd4Ge3. However, in the absence of supporting crystal structure data, the compound Nd5Ge4 is retained in this evaluation. The intermediate phase NdGe2-x has been reported as NdGe2 in other investigations. However, based on the careful compositional analysis of [74Ere] , the form NdGe2-x is retained in this evaluation, and the experimental data for NdGe2 has been ascribed to NdGe2-x. [58Mat] determined that NdGe2-x (NdGe2) was ferromagnetic with a superconducting transition temperature of 3.6 K. The asymptotic Curie temperatures (TC) for Nd5Ge3 and NdGe were reported to be 58.4 [69Nar] and 18 K [66Bus], respectively. [81Bar] reported a paramagnetic TC of 31.6 K for Nd5Ge3. 58Mat: B.T.
