Ge-In

Ge-In (Germanium-Indium) R.W. Olesinski, N. Kanani, and G.J. Abbaschian The Ge-In system is characterized by a eutectic reaction at a temperature close to the melting point of In. The solid solubility of In in (Ge) is probably retrograde, with a maximum solubility of 9 x 10-3 at.% In at ~800 C. The solid solubility of Ge in (In) below the eutectic point ranges from 10-2 to 10-3 at.% Ge. The assessed phase diagram was obtained by thermodynamic modeling of select experimental data [48Kle, 53Kec, 60Thu, 82Def]. The calculations were based on the assumption that the enthalpy and entropy of mixing functions are temperature independent and that the Ge-In mutual solubility in the solid state is nil. 48Kle: W.
