Gd-Y

Gd-Y (Gadolinium-Yttrium) K.A. Gschneidner, Jr. and F.W. Calderwood The assessed phase diagram for the Gd-Y system is based primarily on the work of [62Spe]. The room-temperature form of Gd and Y is the normal cph structure ( ABAB). Both room-temperature and high-temperature forms exhibit complete solid solubility. The high-temperature bcc structure could not be retained at room temperature by quenching. [79Shi] calculated the liquidus and solidus lines and the solvus lines that define the two-phase field at the bcc = cph transformation. These were generally in good agreement with the experimentally determined lines, but the width of the two-phase field between each set of lines was too narrow. Amorphous alloys have been prepared by sputtering onto an aluminum substrate at 78 K under argon pressure. A chemical short-range order was indicated by the interference and radial distribution function [81Lar]. 62Spe: F.H. Spedding, R.M. Valletta, and A.H. Daane, Trans.
