Gd-S

Gd-S (Gadolinium-Sulfur) Editor [81Kam] determined the Gd-S phase diagram between GdS and Gd2S3 above 1650 C. The melting point of Gd2S3 is 1850 с 30 C [81Kam], which is in agreement with ~1885 C reported earlier by [57Fla]. The polymorphic transition temperature of Gd2S3 is 950 с 150 C [57Fla]. [67Yag] synthesized Gd3S4 at 1300 C. Because this phase was not observed at 1650 C, it must form peritectoidally at a temperature between 1300 and 1650 C. Tetragonal GdS2 was observed by [ 57Fla] and [64Rin] existing on the Gd-rich side of the stoichiometry with some homogeneity range, which is most likely the high-temperature modification of GdS2 reported later by [70Web].-H.O. 57Fla: J.
