Dy-V

Dy-V (Dysprosium-Vanadium) J.F. Smith and K.J. Lee Only limited information is available concerning the phase relationships in the Dy-V system. The assessed phase diagram has been calculated and is based on review of the experimental data. [61Gsc] quoted unpublished work of Beck that indicated a region of liquid immiscibility in the system. [61Bae] found no evidence for the existence of intermetallic phases and reported that the terminal solubilities of the elements are quite small. [66Gib] cited later work of Copeland and Kato, (quoted in [Shunk]), as the basis for a partial phase diagram covering the Dy-rich region of the system from 0 to 10 at.% V and in the temperature range 1200 to 1600 C. The region shows a eutectic depression of the melting of Dy from 1407 to 1370 C near 7 at.% V, with a maximum terminal solubility of V in (Dy) of <0.6 at.%. From these limited data, the phase diagram of the Dy-V system appears to be of the same essential character as the diagrams of the other trivalent lanthanons with V. 61Bae: N.C. Baenziger and J.L.
