Cr-Sc

Cr-Sc (Chromium-Scandium) M. Venkatraman and J.P. Neumann The Cr-Sc system is characterized by complete miscibility in the liquid state, a eutectic reaction, L = (Cr) + (bSc), and a eutectoid reaction, (bSc) = (Cr) + (aSc). No intermediate phases occur. The assessed Cr-Sc phase diagram is based on the work of [72Sve]. Cr lowers the (aSc) <259> (bSc) transformation temperature, leading to the eutectoid reaction at 990 C. The solid solubility of Sc in (Cr) is less than 0.1 at.% Sc at 1090 C [63Tay]. No investigations on the solubility of Cr in ( aSc) and (bSc) have been reported. A metastable phase can be stabilized by small B additions. This phase has the estimated composition Cr0.85Sc2.15Bx (x < 0.01) and becomes superconducting below ~6.7 K. 63Tay: A. Taylor, Aeronaut.
