Cr-Pu

Cr-Pu (Chromium-Plutonium) M. Venkatraman, J.P. Neumann, and D.E. Peterson The assessed phase diagram for the Cr-Pu system has been constructed using thermodynamic modeling. It is based primarily on the work of [58Boc], [61Ell], [68Bow], and [68Ell] for the Pu-rich region of the system. Reasonable agreement was obtained between the calculated boundaries and the experimental data. Cr and Pu form a simple eutectic system, with very small terminal solid solubilities and no intermediate phases. Addition of Cr does not significantly change the allotropic transformation temperatures of pure Pu, indicating a very small solid solubility of Cr in (Pu). The maximum solubility of Cr in ( dPu) is about 1 at.%. The nature of the invariant three-phase equilibria involving solid Cr and the Pu allotropes is unknown. 58Boc: A.A. Bochvar, S.T.
