Cr-Np

Cr-Np (Chromium-Neptunium) M. Venkatraman, J.P. Neumann, and D.E. Peterson No investigations of the Cr-Np system have been reported. However, Cr and Np, similar to other Cr-actinide systems, can be expected to form a simple eutectic phase diagram, with small terminal solubilities in the solid state. The assessed phase diagram was obtained by thermodynamic modeling, using the method of [85Ven]. Temperatures have been adjusted to agree with IPTS-68. The two high-temperature allotropic forms of Np are probably in equilibrium with the liquid. Therefore, two liquidus curves must be calculated, one for gNp and the other for bNp. For the Cr liquidus, the melting temperature of Cr was taken as 1863 C (2136 K); the entropy of melting was assumed to have a value of DfusS(Cr) = R. The nature of the invariant three-phase equilibria at 576 C, L + (gNp) + (bNp) , and 280 C, (Cr) + (bNp) + (aNp), is not known. No evidence for the existence of intermetallic phases has been reported. 85Ven: M. Venkatraman, J.P. Neumann, and D.E. Peterson, Bull. Alloy Phase Diagrams, 6(5), 413-414 (1985). Published in Bull.
