Cd-Te

Cd-Te (Cadmium-Tellurium) R.C. Sharma and Y.A. Chang The Cd-Te system is characterized by a congruently melting intermediate phase, aCdTe, at 50 at.% Te and two eutectic reactions-one each in the Cd-CdTe and CdTe-Te regions of the phase diagram. The assessed phase diagram was obtained by thermodynamic modeling and was based on review of the experimental data [ 59Law, 59Nob, 62Lor, 70Ste, 71Bre, 72Tom]. The melting points of Cd and Te are 321.108 and 449.57 C, respectively. The mutual solid solubilities of Cd and Te have not been experimentally determined and are most likely negligible. The aCdTe phase is formed at 50 at.% Te and melts congruently. The deviation from stoichiometric composition in aCdTe is negligible. [67Bor] studied the effect of pressure on aCdTe at room temperature and found two polymorphic transformations at higher pressures. aCdTe (ZnS-type phase) transforms to bCdTe (NaCl-type phase) at ~34 kbar, and bCdTe transforms to gCdTe (bSn-type phase) at ~100 kbar. [63Jay] studied the effect of pressure on the melting equilibria of aCdTe and bCdTe and obtained a L-aCdTe-bCdTe triple point at 19.2 kbar and 996 C. [69Ono] determined the aCdTe = bCdTe equilibrium pressure up to 800 C. 11Kob: M. Kobayashi, Z. Anorg. Allg. Chem., 69, 1-6 (1911) in German. 59Law: W.D. Lawson, S. Nielsen, E.H. Putley, and A.S.
