Cd-Ge

Cd-Ge (Cadmium-Germanium) R.W. Olesinski and G.J. Abbaschian The Ge-Cd system is characterized by a eutectic reaction at a temperature close to the melting point of Cd. The mutual solid solubilities of Ge and Cd are negligible. The assessed phase diagram was obtained by thermodynamic modeling of select experimental data. The liquidus coordinates of [60Thu] were optimized, using least-squares regression and thermodynamic calculations. The calculated Gibbs energy function of the liquid phase and the pure components were subsequently used to compute the liquidus boundary by the common-tangent method. The eutectic composition and temperature were also calculated using the data of [ 60Thu]. All calculations were based on the assumptions that the enthalpy and excess entropy of mixing functions are temperature independent and that the mutual solid solubilities of Ge and Cd are nil. 60Thu: C.D.
