Ca-Eu

Ca-Eu (Calcium-Europium) K.A. Gschneidner, Jr. and F.W. Calderwood The assessed Eu-Ca phase diagram is based on the standard physicochemical analysis work of [69Str], with corrections to the melting and transition temperatures. They reported the melting temperature of Eu to be 826 C, compared to the accepted value of 822 C. No figure was given for the melting point of Ca, but scaling of their phase diagram indicates this melting temperature to be slightly greater than the accepted value of 842 C. The a = b Ca transformation temperature was shown to be 464 C, compared to the accepted value of 443 C. [64Kle] observed extensive mixed crystal (solid solution) formation in the Eu- Ca system, with the bcc structure existing from about 0 to 40 at.% Ca and the fcc structure from about 45 to 100 at.% Ca. Rapid cooling of the melt indicates a miscibility gap of a few atomic percent. 64Kle: W. Klemm, H. Kock, and W. Muhlpfordt, Angew. Chem. Int. Ed., 3, 704 ( 1964). 69Str: V.F. Stroganova, V.F.
