Ca-Ce

Ca-Ce (Calcium-Cerium) K.A. Gschneidner, Jr. and F.W. Calderwood The assessed phase diagram for the Ce-Ca system is from [74Gsc], who based it on the work of [55Zve]. [55Zve] reported Ce and Ca to have less mutual solubility than is found in the La-Ca system. He did not report on the effect of Ca on the polymorphic transformations in Ce or on the effect of Ce on the Ca transformation. [56Tro] reported that 1% Ca prevents Ce from forming aCe on cooling, probably through the stabilization of the b form of Ce. In the assessed diagram, the melting temperatures of Ce and Ca were adjusted from 795 and 850 C, respectively [55Zve], to 798 and 842 C, the accepted values for these metals. To maintain the same temperature difference between the melting temperature of Ca and the Ca liquid monotectic, the monotectic temperature was dropped 8 C from 843 to 835 C. Likewise, the Ce-Ca eutectic temperature was raised 3 C from 792 to 795 C. [61Gsc] showed the (dCe)/(bCa) eutectic composition at 0.3 at.% Ca. 55Zve: G.L. Zverev, Dokl. Akad.
