C-Ge (Carbon-Germanium) R.W. Olesinski and G.J. Abbaschian The assessed Ge-C phase diagram includes a eutectic reaction at a composition very close to pure Ge and at a temperature slightly below the melting point of Ge. The mutual solid solubilities of Ge and C were reported to be negligible [ 59Sca]. Mixtures of graphite and Ge were heated at 650 to 1500 C at pressures ranging from 45 to 65 kbar; heating was followed by quenching and X-ray analysis of the samples. No evidence was observed of either mutual solubility in the solid state or the formation of germanium carbide.
