C-Ge (Carbon-Germanium) R.W. Olesinski and G.J. Abbaschian The assessed Ge-C phase diagram includes a eutectic reaction at a composition very close to pure Ge and at a temperature slightly below the melting point of Ge. The mutual solid solubilities of Ge and C were reported to be negligible [ 59Sca]. Mixtures of graphite and Ge were heated at 650 to 1500 C at pressures ranging from 45 to 65 kbar; heating was followed by quenching and X-ray analysis of the samples. No evidence was observed of either mutual solubility in the solid state or the formation of germanium carbide. The eutectic temperature was reported to decrease with pressure, assuming a value of 675 C at 65 kbar [ 67Tay]. 59Sca: R.I. Scace and G.A. Slack, J. Chem. Phys., 30, 1551-1555 (1959). 67Tay: A.
