Bi-Ni

Bi-Ni (Bismuth-Nickel) P. Nash The Ni-Bi system is characterized by two intermediate phases (NiBi and NiBi3), two peritectics, a eutectic, and very limited terminal solid solutions. The assessed phase diagram is based primarily on the work of [07Vos], [08Por], and [79Sha]. The solubility of Ni in liquid Bi was determined over the temperature range 482 to 1010 C to be 3.94 C 10 T - 0.126, where T is in ш C. The solid solubility of Bi in (Ni) is very restricted, but has not been quantitatively established. Extensions of the solid solubility of the terminal solid solutions have been observed in electrodeposits. The solubility of Bi in (Ni) has been extended to between 19.9 and 29.2 at.% Bi and the solubility of Ni in (Bi) to between 5 and 21.2 Ni. On annealing at 400 C, the alloys reverted to equilibrium structures. 07Vos: G. Voss, Z. Anorg. Allg. Chem., 57, 52-58 (1908) in German. 08Por: M.A. Portevin, Rev.
