Bi-Cd

Bi-Cd (Bismuth-Cadmium) Z. Moser, J. Dutkiewicz, L. Zabdyr, and J. Salawa Bi-Cd is a simple eutectic system with two solid solution phases, (Bi) and (Cd) . The assessed eutectic composition of 55 at.% Cd is based primarily on the work of [56Oel1] and [56Oel2]. The accepted eutectic temperature of 146 C is based on the data of [01Kap], [07Sto], and [56Oel1]. The mutual solubilities of the pure elements in the solid state are extremely small. According to [33Tam], the solubility of Bi in (Cd) is less than 0.03 at. %. Measurements of several physical properties by [35Gab] also did not detect any mutual solubility. In liquid Bi, a short-range order decrease occurs with increasing temperature. Liquid Bi-Cd alloys with compositions close to the eutectic composition show quasi-eutectic structure in the liquid state up to 250 C. The anomalous change in density with composition of liquid Bi-Cd [83Oka] supports the belief of a strong tendency to ordering of liquid Bi-Cd alloys. In Bi-Cd alloys (14 to 85 at.% Bi) rapidly quenched to -190 C, a metastable simple hexagonal phase, g, was detected by [68Sri] in the composition range 40 to 75 at.% Bi. A simple cubic modification of Bi (BiII) is formed above 2.5 GPa at room temperature [64Jag]; it belongs to the space group Pm3m. 01Kap: A.W. Kapp, dissertation, Konigsberg (1901). 07Sto: A.
