Ba-Se

Ba-Se (Barium-Selenium) H. Okamoto The assessed phase diagram for the Ba-Se system is based primarily on the data of [75Lys]. The equilibrium phases are (1) the liquid, L; (2) the bcc terminal phase, (Ba); (3) cubic NaCl-type BaSe; (4) Ba2Se3 with an unknown crystal structure, (5) monoclinic ThC2-type BaSe2; (6) tetragonal BaSe3; and (7) the hexagonal terminal phase, (gSe). The van't Hoff relation suggests that the initial slope of the (Ba) liquidus is -0.085 at.%/C, assuming no Se solubility in (Ba) and 7120 J/mol for the enthalpy of fusion of Ba. Therefore, the eutectic composition observed by [75Lys] indicates that the eutectic temperature must be 0.9/0.085 or about 10 C below the melting point of Ba, consistent with the observed value. 25Sla: M.K.
