Ba-Pr

Ba-Pr (Barium-Praseodymium) K.A. Gschneidner, Jr. and F.W. Calderwood The assessed Pr-Ba phase diagram is based on the work of [71Gri] on the Pr- rich portion of the system, with some adjustments. The melting point of Pr was lowered 3 C by a monotectic reaction, and the temperature of the a=b transition in Pr was lowered less than 1 C by the addition of Ba. Thermal arrests at 730 C for the 2.2%, 3.6%, and 10.2% Ba alloys are believed to be associated with the melting point of Ba, which is 727 C. Ba forms immiscible liquids with Pr. No evidence was found for a liquidus separating the single-phase liquid solution from the two-phase immiscible region. No binary compounds exist in this system, unless they form at a lower temperature by a peritectoidal reaction. 71Gri: R.B. Griffin and K.A. Gschneidner, Jr., Metall. Trans., 2, 2517 (1971).
