B-V

B-V (Boron-Vanadium) K.E. Spear, P.K. Liao, and J.F. Smith The equilibrium solid phases of the V-B system are (1) the terminal solid solutions of bcc (V) and rhombohedral (bB); and (2) the intermediate compounds of V3B2, VB, V5B6, V3B4, V2B3, and VB2. The phase diagram is based on the phase equilibria data of [66Rud] and [81Spe]. The liquidus of the assessed diagram was calculated by the present authors from Gibbs energy functions optimized with respect to thermochemical and phase diagram data. Homogeneity ranges appear to be quite small for all of the solid phases in the V-B system. B is slightly soluble in (V), and (B) dissolves only small amounts (<1 at.%) of V. 66Rud: E.Rudy and St. Windisch, Tech. Rep. No. AFML-TR-65-2, Part 1, Vol. X, Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, OH (1966). 81Spe: K.E. Spear, J.H. Blanks, and M.S. Wang, J. Less-Common Met., 82, 237- 243 (1981).
