B-Mn

B-Mn (Boron-Manganese) P.K. Liao and K.E. Spear The assessed phase diagram for the Mn-B system is based primarily on the work of [65Mar], [67Mar1], and [67Mar2]. The system is characterized by five intermediate compounds (Mn2B, MnB, Mn3B4, MnB2, and MnB4). The terminal solid solutions include bcc (dMn), fcc (gMn), cubic (aMn) and (bMn), and rhombohedral (bB). The liquidus temperatures on the Mn- and B-rich sides of the system are rather uncertain, and the invariant temperatures are uncertain to the extent of с30 to 100 K. Data on the solid solubilities are limited. [67Mar1] reported that B can dissolve Mn in various proportions (from 11:1 to 50:1, or for compositions <301> 94 at.% B), forming solid solutions with the structure of rhombohedral aB at ~1300 C, or rhombohedral bB at high temperatures.
