Au-Sb

Au-Sb (Gold-Antimony) H. Okamoto and T.B. Massalski The equilibrium phases of the Au-Sb system are (1) the liquid; (2) the fcc terminal solid solution, (Au), with less than 1.2 at.% solid solubility of Sb in (Au); (3) the rhombohedral terminal solid solution, (Sb), with no reported solubility of Au in (Sb); and (4) the Fe2S-type intermetallic compound AuSb2. The solid solubility range of the AuSb2 phase is very narrow. The assessed phase diagram, calculated on the basis of thermodynamic experimental data obtained at 750 and 1100 C for the liquid phase, the specific heat and heat of fusion for the AuSb2 compound, and the peritectic equilibrium at 460 C, agrees with the experimentally determined phase boundaries of [06Vog] within about с2 at.%. The cph Mg (A3-type) and the simple cubic aPo (Ah-type) metastable crystal structures have been observed with X-ray techniques following liquid quenching. According to electron diffraction studies, the aPo Ah-type structure may have a superlattice with a double-edge unit cell. Amorphous phases formed by vapor deposition were observed with electron microscopy in the composition range 20 to 63 at.% Sb. 06Vog: R. Vogel, Z. Anorg. Chem., 50, 145-157 (1906) in German.
