Au-Er

Au-Er (Gold-Erbium) K.A. Gschneidner, Jr., F.W. Calderwood, H. Okamoto, and T.B. Massalski The Er-Au system is characterized by the existence of five intermetallic compounds. Although the melting point of ErAu, the Au-rich eutectic temperature, and the solid solubility of Er in (Au) have been reported, the complete phase diagram has not been established experimentally. The assessed phase diagram is based on the present thermodynamic calculation. [65Rid] reported that Au and the Au-rich compound, ErAu4, form a eutectic at 812 C, with a maximum solid solubility of 5.7 at.% Er in (Au). [71Mcm] established the melting point of ErAu as 1710 с 10 C. They did not detect the b = a transition temperature for this compound, but stated that it does exist. The low-temperature form of ErAu crystallizes in the orthorhombic CrB-type structure. The high-temperature form has the cubic CsCl-type structure. ErAu2 crystallizes in the tetragonal MoSi2-type structure, and Er2Au crystallizes in the orthorhombic Co2Si-type structure. ErAu3 crystallizes in the orthorhombic Cu3Ti-type structure, and ErAu4 crystallizes in the tetragonal MoNi4-type structure. 65Rid: P.E. Rider, K.A. Gschneidner, Jr., and O.D. McMasters, Trans.
