Au-B

Au-B (Gold-Boron) H. Okamoto and T.B. Massalski Because very little experimental work has been done on the Au-B system, the assessed diagram shows the likely phase relationships only schematically. The equilibrium phases are (1) the liquid (L); (2) the fcc terminal solid solution, (Au), having a small but not negligible solubility of B in (Au); and (3) the terminal solid solution, (B). The existence of a miscibility gap in the liquid state at least in the range between 50 and 80 at.% B was concluded from the distribution and shape of B in solidified melts [65Wal]. There appears to be a eutectic reaction at 1053 с 3 C and <5 at.% B [65Wal]. The extent of possible solid solubility of Au in (B) has not been measured. An AuB2 compound, with AlB2-type hexagonal structure, may exist as a metastable phase. 65Wal: F. Wald and R.W. Stormont, J. Less-Common Met., 9(6), 423-433 (1965).
