As-Nd

As-Nd (Arsenic-Neodymium) K.A. Gschneidner, Jr. and F.W. Calderwood The assessed phase diagram for the Nd-As system is based primarily on the work of [75Kob]. It consists of two parts: the Nd-NdAs system, where equilibrium is reached between the solid and liquid phases, and the NdAs-As system, where the solid and gaseous phases are in equilibrium. [75Kob] found that Nd and As form three compounds-NdAs2, NdAs, and Nd3As. The structure of the latter compound was not determined. Nd3As forms peritectically from NdAs and the melt at 1690 C. It also forms a eutectic with (bNd) at 970 C, but no eutectic composition was stated. Scaling of the phase diagram of [75Kob] indicated the eutectic composition to be <1.3 at.% As and the maximum solubility in Nd to be <1 at.%. [75Kob] also reported congruent melting at 2220 с 15 C for NdAs, which has a cubic structure of the NaCl-type. [74Tay] found that As-rich NdAs had a larger lattice parameter (0.59953 с 3 nm) than the Nd-rich phase (0.559860 с 4 nm). NdAs2 forms from NdAs, the melt(?), and gaseous As at 865 C. 74Tay: J.B.
