Al-Tb (Aluminum-Terbium) Editor Except for the omission of Al4Tb, the Al-Tb phase diagram is shown as drawn by [Moffatt], presuming similarity to Al-Gd and Al-Dy. Al4U-type orthorhombic Al4Tb reported by [67Run] was not accepted by [89Gsc], because [65Bus] could not confirm the existence of Al4Gd and [78Dri] showed only Al3Tb in the high- Al portion of this system. [67Run] investigated the Al-rich portion of this system and found Al3Tb to have a rhombohedral structure of the BaPb3-type. No melting or decomposition data have been reported for Al3Tb. [67Run] also reported a eutectic between Al and Al3Tb at 644 C with a eutectic composition of ~1.8 at.% Tb, which appears to be too small in view of the eutectic compositions in the Al-Gd (5 at.%) and Al-Dy (2.5 at.%) systems. [ 89Gsc] estimated the Al-rich eutectic to be at ~3.5 at.% Tb. The solubility of Tb in Al is 0.005 at.% at 600 C [78Dri].-H.O. 65Bus: K.H.J. Buschow, J. Less-Common Met., 9, 452 (1965). 67Run: O.J.C.
