Al-P

Al-P (Aluminum-Phosphorus) A.J. McAlister The phase diagram of the Al-P system in equilibrium with its vapor is assumed to be topologically similar to the other III-V systems, such as In-Sb and As- Ga. Therefore, in addition to the vapor, four phases should appear: (1) the liquid; (2) the fcc (Al) solid solution; (3) the (P) solid solution, based on the complex cubic white aP allotrope, which melts metastably with respect to the red and black forms, whose thermodynamic properties are not as well characterized; and (4) the intermediate phase, AlP, which has the cubic ZnS structure. The assessed phase diagram has been constructed from model Gibbs energies for AlP and the liquid and is based primarily on the work of [44Whi], with review of the work of [72Pan], [73Ile], and [74Ile] on ternary and quaternary diagrams. Good agreement was found between the calculated boundaries and the few available experimental data. 44Whi: W.E. White and A.H. Bushey, J. Am. Chem. Soc., 66, 1666-1672 (1944). 72Pan: M.B.
