Ag-Y

Ag-Y (Silver-Yttrium) K.A. Gschneidner, Jr. and F.W. Calderwood The assessed phase diagram for the Ag-Y system is based on the work of [64Geb], except for details of the Ag-rich region, which are based on the results of [ 70Gsc] and [70Mcm]. The AgxY compound reported by [64Geb] is shown as Ag51Y14 with a slight solubility range. The eutectic temperature for the (Ag)-Ag51Y14 ( AgxY) subsystem is shown as 799 C. The solubility of Y in (Ag) at the eutectic temperature, which is given as 1.31 at.% [70Gsc], is in good agreement with that reported by [64Geb]. [64Geb] reported three intermetallic phases, all of which melted congruently. The stoichiometry of the Ag-rich phase, which melted at 940 C, was not established, but designated as AgxY. The composition was reported to be 22.6 at.% Y. Other compounds reported were Ag2Y and AgY. 64Geb: E. Gebhardt, M. von Erdberg, and U. Luty, Nucl. Met., 10, 303 (1964). 70Gsc: K.A.
