Ag-Tm

Ag-Tm (Silver-Thulium) Editor A speculative Ag-Tm phase diagram is redrawn from [Moffatt], who assumed similarity to the Ag-Er and Ag-Ho systems. The Ag51Tm14 phase, which was not incorporated in [Moffatt], has been added by the editor. [70Gsc] determined the solid solubility of Tm in (Ag) from 300 to 787 C. At the eutectic temperature (787 C), they found 4.57 at.% Tm is the maximum solubility in (Ag) . [70Mcm] determined the Ag-rich phase in this system to be Ag3Tm, which exists in both the cubic AuCu3-type structure and the orthorhombic TiCu3-type structure. Presumably, the higher symmetry phase (cubic) is the high- temperature form. The compound Ag2Tm was reported by [67Dwi]. Based on optical pyrometer sightings, [63Cha] estimated that the melting point of binary phases that contain Ag with either Sm, Tb, Ho, or Tm lies between 800 and 1000 C, which is consistent with the known eutectic temperatures in the Sm-, Tb-, and Ho-Ag systems.-H.O. 63Cha: C.C.
