Ag-Sc

Ag-Sc (Silver-Scandium) K.A. Gschneidner, Jr. and F.W. Calderwood The assessed phase diagram for the Ag-Sc system is based on the work of [70Gsc] , [70Mcm], [71Reu], and [75Sta]. [70Gsc] found the Ag-rich compound in this system to be Ag4Sc, which was reported by [70Mcm] to have a tetragonal MoNi4- type structure. [70Gsc] determined the eutectic temperature for the (Ag)-Ag4Sc sub-system to be 926 C, with a terminal solid solubility of 10.4 at.% Sc. They also determined the solid solubility of Sc in Ag by the X-ray parametric method from 300 to 926 C. No information has been reported on the solid solubility of Ag in (Sc), or on the effect of Ag additions on the a = b allotropic transformation of Sc. The Ag4Sc, Ag2Sc, and AgSc phases were observed by [71Reu]. Ag4Sc was reported to be formed peritectoidally at 920 C, and Ag2Sc and AgSc were observed to melt congruently at 1155 and 1230 C, respectively [75Sta]. 70Gsc: K.A. Gschneidner, Jr., O.D.
