Ag-Li

Ag-Li (Silver-Lithium) A.D. Pelton The assessed phase diagram for the Ag-Li system is taken directly from [54Fre], except for the melting points of the pure elements, which are from [Melt]. Li exhibits extensive solubility in (Ag). [54Fre] could not define the maximum temperature of stability of the g1 phase, because of difficulties encountered in the metallography of quenched Li-rich alloys and because decomposition structures were observed after quenching. Consequently, this portion of the assessed diagram has been drawn with dashed lines. The liquidus and solidus of the (Ag) + L region from 317 C to the melting point of Ag exhibit several bends occurring at approximately the same compositions in both the solidus and liquidus, so that the two phase boundaries parallel one another. These effects appear to be associated with ordering in the liquid or solid solutions. Thermodynamic calculations of the solidus and liquidus agree well with the curves of [54Fre], except that the bends have not been reproduced. 54Fre: W.E. Freeth and G.V. Raynor, J. Inst.
